I agree that the angles aren't ideal.
I've asked Nicole from Dr. Ross' office to provide more example of immediately postoperative pictures that give us a clearer representation of what it looks like. Also, Pat Hennessey, Publisher of the Hair Transplant Network recently visited their clinic and will be posting highlights and photos in the Visits to Leading Hair Transplant Clinics section of the forum in the near future. I too will be interested to see them. Best wishes, Bill

It's honestly hard to tell from the photos whether or not the strip was taken a bit higher than we are typically used to seeing.
In my opinion, taking the strip too high may be problematic if hair loss progresses to a norwood 6 or 7 level. However, from my research, there is no additional risk of scarring taking the donor strip above the occipital bump. The good news is, not all patients end up a norwood 6 or 7, and sometimes physicians will take hair from the "non-universal" safe zone if it is considered "safe" for the particular patient. At least at this point, from the photos, this patient shows no signs of thinning in these higher norwood areas. It will be interesting to see other postoperative examples. I do know that Pat recently visited with Dr. Ross and his staff and things went very well. He will be posting his review in the "Visits" forum shortly. Best wishes, Bill

This particular patient's occipital ridge is slightly higher than the average person, which is why it may appear to be too high up. This is always taken into consideration to minimize tension on the donor area.
