HL,
Patients do not HAVE to take medicines to maintain transplants. In fact, most donor follicles do not have DHT receptors, which is what makes them good transplant follicles in the first place. Medications really have their greatest usefulnes in maintaining what is left of the recipient hair to act as "filler" for transplants. Here is a good example. The first picture shows what he has left before surgery The second picture is 7 months after surgery. Note how the natural recipient hair was blended into the HT hair to maximize density and coverage. The use of medication would be helpful in maintaining those native recipient hairs, but they won't do much of anything for the transplanted hairs.

Hello Everyone, I have looked into this subject a fair bit and it seems to be very indepth with the surgury. Im not too sure about having to take medication to maintain the surgury. I have noticed people before that i think may have had the surgury to have hair that looks unnatural. Can people notice the difference between this and real hair?

T_gerry,
After 9 days, the transplanted hair is completely secure. Thus, you are safe to get a haircut. Just ask your barber to be careful around the donor scar since it may still be senstive. Best wishes, Bill
