A friend of mine told me the other day that applying hair-gel to your hair may cause hair-loss. Is it true?

Also, he said that oiling your hair immediately after taking a bath causes dandruff in the hair. Is it correct or a myth?

The first one is a myth. Male hair loss and pattern baldness is mostly genetic. Applying hair gel ain't gonna matter one way or the other.

Healthyliving,

I think why some conjecture that hair gel or other products may cause hair loss is because men with male pattern baldness who apply the gel may end up with some hair in their hand of hair that has already detached from the follicle. But rest assured, hair gel does not cause or facilitate hair loss.

I'm not sure what you mean by "oiling" your hair. But some styling products may facilitate dandruff.

Best wishes,

Bill

I may add that gel usually stick hairs together, including some hairs that fall off gradually during the day. Thus during the shower, you will notice more hairs lost in the bathtub.
