I just read the post by Donna B and I am also glad to see a female post on the forum. We are seeing more women in our clinic requesting information on hair loss and hair transplantation, but there is still very little information on the internet or in the media female hair loss.

As you mentioned it is important to do some homework before having a transplant. This is especially important for women because even though there are some similarities to transplants in men, there are some big differences. I would advise anyone seeking a hair transplant to have a consult with more then one clinic. It is also important to be able to see before and after photos and hopefully find photos of patients with similar hair loss to your own.

Here are photographs of some of the female patients I have done transplants on. I included a variety of different type of female hair loss. Patient A has thinning in the crown and on the top of the head, but the frontal hairline is preserved. This is the most common pattern of hair loss we see in women and is called Androgenic Alopecia. Patient B has always had a high hairline which also has receded overtime wanted her hairline lowered. Patient C has thinning in the temple area as well as a high hair line. Patient D has thinning in the temple area caused by pulling her hair back tightly for a certain hair style. Over time pulling the hair so tight can cause permanent hair loss and is called traction alopecia.

I hope this is helpful for any female patients out there.

Dr. Paul,

Though hair loss is often considered a male dominated condition, over 20 million women in the U.S. suffer from various forms of hair loss.

You have hit two of the biggies Androgenetic Alopecia (hereditary hair loss) and Traction Alopecia. Of course there are those women with naturally higher hairlines that have chosen to get work done as well.

The results you poisted look terrific. I hope this gives our women members/viewers hope that they too can receive treatment for their hair loss condition.

Best wishes,

Bill

I think my mom needs a transplant, but she thinks that she's too old to undertake it and just can't be bothered by her hairloss.
Her body is racked with too much of the other "senior citizen" diseases, for her to consider anything that is remotely vain.
It's just her decision.

Hiya, I am seeing a surgeon on Friday Dr Goldstein, with Transform. I'm really nervous as if I do go ahead with this it will cost alot of money and we would definately only be able to have one go at it as it will already take us 5 years to pay back for this one, (we have a young family - childcare costs etc). I'm 40 next year and I would love not to have to wear a hair piece anymore and just have my "own hair". My hair is very thin on top - all over and I'm not sure if i will ever have the coverage I'm after!!

Is there any women out there who have had a transplant and are rally happy????????????

Hi maxine

you sound very new to this , i think you should cancel your appiontment with transform and really do some solid research .

Hts should not be taken lightly and I would urge you to read about what to realistically expect from a hair transplant , meet patients , ask questions research reasearch reasearch !!!

i feel you are not very well informed and really need to educate yourself more .

go with a world class recomended surgeon , think before you regret going to transform ,

good luck richie

Hi,

Thought I'd meet a surgeon and get some info. I won't be handing over any money or agreeing to anything until I have done alot more research - but thought I need to start somewhere. I chose Transform as they are the largest cosmetic company in the Uk. I have also looked at others and would love to go somewhere where I can speak to someone and see their transplant results.

Thanks for advice x

I've never heard of Dr. Goldstein or seen any of his results. Is this the Dr. Goldstein in Connecticut? I agree with Wilkinson....I'd cancel and do more research. Dr. Cohen is in Connecticut and has been prescreened by this site. He posts some pretty good results. He is one of those doctors that seems to do more with less, meaning he knows how best to place the grafts for the best impact. There are also some outstanding doctors in New York.

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1?

Hi maxine

I feel to get the best possible results you may have to look further afield , the most consistantly top results are from canada and north america , Hasson and Wong , Dr Feller , Dr Shapiro and Dr Rahal .

Forget transform , they have lots of surgeons performing lots of different proceedures , they don't specialize in any one field , i feel you will be throwing good money away and not recieving a truely world class result .

Losing your hair is devastating whether you're male of female so make an informed choice and go with one of the worlds best .

Look up Spex , he is always on here and is not far from the midlands , he'll let you see and touch his results , I'm in yorkshire .

After two years research and a year on meds and even some uk consults , I chose Dr Feller in New York , I am not disapointed , I know I chose one of the worlds best .

Please just research as much as you can , meet up with Spex , try to understand they are limitations to hts , the key to a natural looking and sucessful result lies with the skill of the surgeon , go to a Dr who specializes in this field .

Don't make any rushed desisions .

Good luck
richie
