I'm hoping that I'm alone and not everyone got massively spammed today. On the homepage of my blog, everything appears to be fine, but if you click on any of the links (ie. Post-Bosley / Pre-Shapiro), you'll see countless spam comments. Over 200 in total! I'm not sure if there should be an automatic filtering agent in place (ie. enter symbols/numbers prior to it being accepted, etc.).

Pat / Bill,

Is there a way to delete them all in one simple step? Presently, I have to click on each one and 'hide' them.

Thanks!!

OK, I am in the proccess of deleting all these comment spam messages in the blog area.

I guess the best way to try and fight this problem, is to modify the way comments are added and prevent mass commenting spamming the sites.

M&M,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have confirmed that these spam entries have made their way into the database. Our webmaster will be working on this to get things back to normal.

Thanks,

Bill

M&M and all other blog authors, I have removed the facility to add comments to the journal entries and also deleted all the spam comments that appeared there.

The best way to control this, is to disallow any HTML within the comment area and this includes any links whatsoever.

I will also change the comment proccess, so that any comment will have some from of human user verification (CAPTCHA) and added through a pop up, rather than directly on the page. This will also reduce the ability of spam bots posting tons of junk into the journal entry area.

Hope this helps.
