Dear Forum Members,

As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here.

We are currently considering Dr. Brandon Ross of La Jolla, California for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. At this time, he is not being reviewed for Coalition membership. We would appreciate your input regarding his potential recommendation.

I recently visited with him and observed him perform a highly refined surgery. I was very impressed with his level of patient care and the quality of he and his staff's work. See Pat's Visit to Ross Medical hair Restoration in La Jolla, CA.

Dr. Ross has 8 years of experience and exclusively performs hair transplant surgery at his clinic in La Jolla, CA, performing only one large session on a given day to assure quality. He and his experienced staff have the ability to perform over 3,000 all follicular unit grafts in a single session when appropriate for the patient.

Dr. Ross uses a single blade to harvest the donor strip to minimize transection. His experienced staff then carefully dissects and trims all follicular unit grafts under microscopes to minimize the risk of follicular transection, while maximizing the final hair growth.

Dr. Ross typically uses a double layer suture to close the donor area, which he believes reduces the appearance of the scar, while minimizing tension on the wound. Dr. Ross uses the trichophytic closure technique for all hair transplants he performs.

Dr. Ross uses instruments as small as 21 gauge needles to create a mix of sagital and coronal incisions to produce densely packed and natural looking results that mimic nature.

Given Dr. Ross' extensive experience and dedication to high quality follicular unit hair transplantation, Bill and I believe that he should be considered for recommendation. See our standards for recommendation .

Patient and surgical examples can be found below:

2236 Grafts with Dr. Ross

2061 Grafts with Dr. Ross

2832 Grafts Post Op ??“ Dr. Ross

2175 Grafts Post Op ??“ Dr. Ross

I welcome input and comments from forum members regarding his potential recommendation.

Pat,
Dr. Ross seems to be pounding out amazing results, the second link (2236 grafts) didn't work. The patient that received 3826 grafts looks amazing. The closures and the immediate post op work looks great. Besides the last example the recipient incision look a little large, it could just be me. I think from these examples your recent visit and the fact he has a tech with him for over 10 years (very underestimated in this field), I would say a definite yes on the recommendation for Dr. Ross. Does Dr. Ross and Dr. Timothy Carman work together?

Arrie,

Dr. Tim Carmen works with Dr. Bill Reed at La Jolla Hair Restoration Medical Center.

In fact, Dr. Reed spoke well of Dr. Ross and actually encouraged me to visit him to see his surgery and consider him for recommendation. Now in this day of competition, how many people go out of their way to help their "competition" in their own backyard?

Dr. Reed and Dr. Carmen are true class acts as is Dr. Ross. It's physicians like them who give hair transplantation a good name and redeem it from the abuses of the past.

Onwards and Upwards, Pat

Thanks Falc it worked and it was another great result for such a low number of grafts.
Pat it look like that little area is gonna have quit a few talented surgeons to go to, thats an amazing option nowadays. Thew only thing that was not present in all the results were up close exposing hairline shots. The closures look simply amazing though...

Pat-

I like the results that are being shown, they look really good.

Take a look at the 2353 grafts and let me know if it is my imagination about how high his scar is. It looks pretty high up on the back of his head, almost outside the "safe zone".

Thanks,
Eman

Eman,

It's honestly hard to tell from the angles of the pictures and with the surgical bandage around the head.

From other pictures, we can see that this is not the norm for them however, cases can be made for harvesting the strip above the occipital bump. Clearly a level 6 or 7 on the norwood scale would lose transplanted hair that was taken in this area, but the many patients that don't end up with that high degree of balding won't.

Thanks for your input.

Best wishes,

Falc

The work looks good overall. I'd like to see more grown out results. He seems to do a lot with a minimal number of grafts. His density is not as high as others, but the work looks clean.

Thanks for everyone's input. Based on all the first and second hand information that we've gathered, I'm confident that Dr. Ross and his experienced staff have earned the right to be recommended on the Hair Transplant Network.

I expect that we will see many impressive results from their patients on this community in the future.
