Thanks for your comments hairscout. This patient has a developing NW 6 androgenetic alopecia pattern. The area involved is over 200 cm2, additionally his physiognomy includes a marked buttress anteriorly in the frontal/hair line area. To compensate for the buttress the hairline was designed a bit wider, hence committing more fu to the hairline. The hairline required about 2300 fu leaving 1928 for the frontal and midscalp areas. Remember that density is equal to the number of fu divided by the area, thus 1928/160 is about 12 fu/cm2. Furthermore, this patient's goal has been met; he chose to achieve coverage albeit thinner, versus limited coverage with higher density. Note that he has chosen to part his hair in the middle, which exposes two sides. The part side always tends to look thinner since it does not benefit from the singling of hair when one parts on the side. Nonetheless, this patient's hair looks natural and age appropriate. I am a bit of a frustrated painter; there is a lot of canvass and relatively little oil paint. Another smaller procedure of 1500 to 2000 would complete his restoration if he desired thicker hair especially on the top down viewing. He is very content for the time being.I am thus very happy for him.
