Pt is a 42 YO male with androgenic alopecia affecting bilateral temples, posterior frontal forelock and crown. He had been on finasteride, 1.25 mg/day for one year at time of initial consult. Transplanted graft count as follows: 1's = 542; 2's=1755; 3's=310; DFU's 150. Acceptable closure tension. Tricophytic closure. Patient was a "late bloomer" as he didn't notice any new growth beginning until month 4. Here at month 7 post op, he certainly can expect more growth in the coming months, and we will update his progress in the next couple of months.

I appreciate all the good feedback.
dakota3: I understand your underlying concerns regarding the use of, well really, ANY photo manipulation that may be used to "color" results as it were. Because this practice is a possibility however, it should not preclude one ipso facto from utilizing, say, as you point out, a flash in "before" pictures. There are actually situations in which a flash is desirable- most notably when there is enough pre-existing hair that a photo without flash doesn't really do justice in revealing the extent of underlying thinning which is occurring and which is the reason the patient sought treatment in the first place, as in this patient. The issue that keeps things "legitimate" is that the post op ("after") photo be taken under the same level of scrutiny (in this example, under flash conditions), so that one is comparing apples to apples, not apples to oranges. In this patient album, all post op photos are taken under the same conditions (flash) as the pre op views. In fact, there are a couple of pre op temple views without flash (less scrutiny) and post op views with flash (more scrutiny!!). So I agree with your over riding concern, yet the flash photo in and of itself is not the issue- it is whether or not the post photos are taken at at least the same level of scrutiny, if not more. Sincerely;
