That is excellent work Dr. Carman---- I think the planning out portion of how to best meet the patients needs should not be over-looked either. By recreating a small temple point, you actually help pull the look "forward" while still being able to place the hairline in a mature fashion.
Additionally, the use of DFU's in the frontal core will bolster density and help maintain a non-see through look, using a minimum of grafts. This is method Dr. Ron and Paul Shapiro will use on occasion and it has yielded tremendous results. I echo Bill's question about the strip--do you normally take the strip out in one section? I know some feel that if a patient is lax enough, taking the strip out in one section reduces transection (the 2 vertical cuts across the strip when removing in 3 sections) so it will be interesting to hear how you approach your strip removals. Again, excellent work so far and excellent planning, IMHO. Take Care, Jason

B spot-
Thank you very much. Regarding the strip- In general, on most cases I remove the strip in it's entirety in one step. There are occasions where I will remove in two sections; this is usually when the exact graft yield is in question due to previous scar presence, mixed grey/dark hair, variable densities from temporal to posterior occipital areas, etc . Noting the length of the first section we will adjust the length/ width (as permitted) of the second based on the # of grafts yielded by the first section, to obtain our target graft #.

Dr. Carmen,
Did you say you were trained or worked with Dr. Reed in Lajolla? I admire his technique and work. You seem to be doing everything right and your detailed surgery data will help a great deal. Very nice work!

Hi Janna-
Thank you very much for those kind words. Yes, I did my fellowship training with Dr. Reed. Since that time I have had the honor of joining him as his partner at LJHR. His superior skills are only exceeded by his strong ethical commitment to fostering a solid Doctor-Patient relationship. Truly a class act, and I feel privileged to work with him.
