While S.S. maintained good coverage on the top and crown of his scalp, his hairline had receeded to almost nothing. We dense packed 1,800 grafts via strip method (lateral slit) into the hairline and temple area. His results are shown in the photos.

Dr. Feller,
I notice the lack of a true "center point" where most surgeons either place the power V or the tip of the horseshoe. I can see where a "point" exists but it is perhaps a centimeter behind the soft line of the hairline itself. I think this looks good, but was the hairline design predicated on the patients choice of hairstyle? Also, could you perhaps give us a little info as to how you qualified this patient? (lowering the hairline, amount of grafts, size and length of strip, future hairloss, remaining donor, etc...) I am glad that you are taking the time to present these patients to the forum, and I think many members are rapidly realizing the type of work you do. Thanks Again......

B-Spot,
Not as much thinking went into his plan as described in your post. What I tend to do is parallel or shadow the current hairline and extrapolate where the new one should be. Sometimes the lines may be modified by the patient. For example, a patient may want a more pointed or rounded widow's peak. Then we do the procedure. Dan, Thanks for the kind words. Grow well. Dr Feller

Dr. Feller, I guess that was kind of what I was getting at here, simply because of the before hairline versus the after hairline which seems to suit the patient's hairstyle to perfection. I think your patient looks great, and thanks again for posting!

Dr. Feller,
Well, after seeing this I reiterate being glad to put my (large) scalp in your capable hands; this is great work...I defy anyone to spot the transplant. I'm sure this guy is quite happy. Regards, Benjamin |

Doctor Feller,
does the hair normally grow in zigzags or did the patient request this? Maybe it looks different in person, but they seem a bit too far out to me. Other than that, I like the fact that hairline is blended in with the density increasing. Many hairlines can be spotted as Ht as the density starts right away, even in cases when the hairline is way up. |

Yes, some patients do have accentuated zig zagging. Look at Andy Garcia in some of his movies in the past five years and you will see the same pattern occuring naturally.
The point of it is to break up the hairline so that it does not look too straght AND so the density varies along the hairline to create the most natural tapered look possible.
