This patient is 1 year post-op transplantation to the crown. The slits were placed to follow his native swirl in a 360 degree pattern to create a natural result.

Thanks for the post Dr. Gabel. The work is very refined and clean. I would imagine that there was no evidence of surgery within a week. The cosmetic difference is very natural and I am certain that this patient was extremely pleased.

This is a great example of how the crown can be a vast wasteland that chews up Fu. Although there is a definite improvement, it certainly covered and didn't provide much density. That statement however has no bearing on the quality of the transplant just noting a fact to how difficult it is to cover the crown.

I agree: very natural results, even though it's seemingly impossible to restore dramatic density to a balding crown. I suspect that the some of the native hair to the left of the crown in the after picture could have been mashed around or pushed over the treated area to make it look even thicker (like they do with minox and laser result pics), but you chose to expose the area completely, which still looks great. Props to you for the honesty and excellent work.

Very clean work and I totally agree with NN, the coverage is not super dense but is extremely natural. A big thanks to Dr. Gabel to showing a realistic result and great work.

The nice thing for this patient is that a little toppek sprinkled in will have some hairs to bind to and conceal nicely. The goal is of course not to have to use concealers but he has always has the option.

Because you don't have the benefit of the "layering effect", crown cases are always a challenge. This is an excellent result for just one pass and once again clearly demonstrates Dr. Gabel's consistency of skill and result. Well done.

I look forward to more of Dr. Gabel's work and thank him for contributing to this forum.

Dr. Gabel,

Thank you for contributing to our community. The results look very natural.

Unfortunately, the crown has been seemingly named as the "black hole" when it comes to the number of follicular unit grafts needs to achieve great hair density. I would agree that some of this is due to the lack of the layering effect that Dr. Feller is referring to.

That being said - there is definitely an overall improved appearance in terms of hair density and naturalness.

I would also add that it is best NOT to try and make the crown as dense as the front and top. It is largely unnecessary, hard to achieve, and uses up a tremendous number of grafts that should be left in the "bank" for future use if needed.

In the past, crowns were not typically transplanted because without ultra-refined high density technique they simply looked unnatural. Because of this, many doctors used SCALP REDUCTION to decrease crown baldness. This procedure has produced some of the very worst and hideous results in the history of the industry.

Thankfully doctors like Dr. Gabel, and those before him, offered a viable alternative to scalp reductions, and as a result MOST doctors will no longer even offer that brutal procedure.

Like so much else in HT, if a proper evaluation and plan are worked out and discussed with a responsible doctor before surgery, the results can be realistic and outstanding like this current Dr. Gabel patient WITHOUT a downside.

Keep up the good work.

Dr. Feller
