Dr. Devroye,

Thanks for coming back to present this patient's result.

Personally, I think it's terrific that not only can we expect impressive hair transplant results from your clinic, but that your presentations are so descriptive and detailed.

Thanks for your continued particpation on our forum. You've certainly developed quite a fan club by doing what you do best - producing excellent results and presenting them in this community.

All the Best,

Bill

Bill is 100% correct. Your work and presentation are top notch. I especially love that you give us the area covered, as well as the density in those respective areas.

Dear thanatopsis_awry ,
Thanks for the question, as you probably imagine you are not the first to ask it!
Most of the patients are concerned about this topic: SHAVING THE RECEPIENT AREA: PRO AND CONS
First of all we could list the advantages:
If I could choose, of course it is ideal for me to work on a shaved area for every patient because
-I have a better visualisation of the balding zones and their edges.
-A higher facility in making the incisions and also for their repartition.
-Easier to place the FU in the incisions. With a higher precision of placement, the follicles are not damaged at all so there is no risk of shock loss.
-Also, for correction it is very important to shave this area to see clearly the plugs to be removed.

Sometimes, the patient is very bald so it is not necessary to shave the area.
I never impose it to my patients as I understand they prefer an unnoticeable work, so it is not compulsory but in those cases I spoke to them and we find the best strategy to adopt. Sometimes they prefer to keep their hair but then we transfer less grafts in one day (maximum 2500). Other patients accept to shave, as they want more than 2500 grafts (always considering a rich donor area, of course). The surgery will last more hours when we make mega sessions (more than 3000 grafts) so I have to shave the area to place the grafts in an easier way as to work in a comfortable way during the whole day.
I know for example that Hassan and Wong use to make the ???coronal incisions???, so it is compulsory to shave the area as the incisions are not easy to find, and among hairs it will be almost impossible.
Please note that I never shave women, usually I reach about 2000 grafts, and I do my best to make the incisions and to place the grafts through the hairs.
Finally, there is only one disadvantage:
The surgery is visible, so when the patient wants to be discrete it is better not to shave the whole anterior part.

If you have any doubt, do not hesitate to post other questions.

Dr. Devroye this is a great repair in a crown that needed large grafts excised . It shows that 1000 or so grafts can leave a more natural look alone instead of trying to hide the old large grafts among the new fu's .
The patient looks like he has a excellent result .
