This is the kind of FUE case we all hope for. While we initially planned to do a small case of only about 300 FUE grafts, his skin was so cooperative that we were able to increase the case to 1,000 FUE instead. The best part is that his entire procedure only took 3 hours from start to finish.

He had had prior strip surgery before, and while I felt the results were not bad, the hairline was a bit sparse and stalky in areas. He really needed a "fill-in" as oppsed to a "repair".

We got out 50% 2 hair grafts and 50% 1 hair grafts. All grafts were inspected and trimmed under microscopes as per usual before being implanted.

The results are in the gallery and only represent the before and immediate post ops. We will update them in the future as he grows in.

Here's a link to another FUE patient with a thousand grafts who is grown out:

The work looks really nice and clean . The donor area is nice in that he did not have to shave the whole head . Im really impressed by this . As a patient I would be real happy .

His old work didn't look to bad, but definitely a bit storky round the sides. No trouble, he will soon have a new hairline entirely.

Looks like very nice work. With a FUE extraction such as this case what do you feel the yield % would be as opposed to a small strip session?

I would also as about doing a FUE into an existing donor scar. Could the FUE extraction are be spread out along a longer linear shaved area as opposed to a big rectangular area which would therefore allow for easier covering of the shaved FUE extraction area?

Great work as always. Thanks

Omy,
Thanks. We only shave the areas that are to be worked on, never the entire head. Many pateints come into my office thinkng that even if they have a small area to be filled that we shave the entire head. We don't. We only clear away enough hair to get the job done cleanly and quickly, no different than any standard surgery.

Petchski,
I agree, his original work wasn't bad, but there were a few areas on the hairline that had two and even three hair grafts which was upseting to him. For now it isn't a problem, but if he lost more of his original hair behind they would have stood out more. Thanks for the Kudos.

Flyby,
I believe his yield will equal strip because the amount of Torsion, Traction, and Compression was minimized through the use of our custom instrumentation and protocols. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, his skin was so cooperative that all destructive FUE forces were minimized to begin with. You never know with physiology, but if I were a betting man, I'd say his results and yield will be identical to strip surgery.

Yes, the extractions can be taken out along a longer and thinner area of shaved skin to make it easier to conceal. Some FUE doctors shave a few stripes under the hair in a multi-level effect which also works very well. It's very clever and I'll probably have to try that someday as I have been steadily increasing the regular sizes of my FUE procedures thanks to new instrumentation.

Thanks for the comments flyby.

Dr. Feller thank you for sharing this case and extra info with us.

this is very important piece of information. i see that some guys here have been fed with hate for fue to the point where saying "one bad apple spoils the bunch" is written is stone. is it safe to say Dr. Feller that a fue transplant for a NW2.5 guy up to 2.5K grafts is a viable or even preferable option if money is not an issue? i have also seen on the other forum few decent grown-up fue jobs lately that i'm impressed with. my confidence in fue has risen up lately, and i wanna point out that i'm still aware that there is a perfect place and time for when to go with strip as there is for a fue.
i hope i didn't hijack anything here and i look forward to the final result in this particular case.

p.s. would the "custom instrumentation" be of an electrical nature by any chance?
