I was told by a Gold Coast clinic that if you wash your head with saline solution every hour for 48 hours after the HT procedure the scabs wont form. I also wonder if the new hairs fall out because they break off with the scabs. If they didnt form then perhaps less of the new hair would fall out. Does anyone have any comment. i have an appt with Dr Path in November 09. cheers

Sunnycoast,

Scabs are a natural part of the healing process. It's just how the body works. Thus, I highly doubt you'll be able to prevent scab formation...and I'm not sure that you'd actually want to.

All the Best,

Bill

After my first procedure I developed scabs and did saline soaks every hour. But after my second procedure I was given a bottle of graftcyte to spray on every half an hour, and I had very little scab formation.

I have had many patients who are in a similar work situation to you. I recommend they tell their employer that they are having something removed from their scalp and the doctor has asked to keep the head covered for 1 week. Having to explain the hat to a few co-workers may be better than using up a vacation to have the procedure done. I use graftcyte and ocean water sprays on all patients and the scabbing is very minimal.

I'm self employed so no one is gonna ask me about my hat, and if they do I'll tell them to mind there own business.
