This Pakistani surgical assistant had 2200+ grafts by me around 5 months ago. He brought his sister in for a scar repair consultation this weekend as she had been in a car wreck a few years back in their native country. He has a bit of growth in his previously bald frontal region and his scar was fantastic--despite not coming in for followup scar checks and continuing on with lots of neck motion immediately after the procedure.
A flash and non flash of the scar is presented and illustrates how folks from this part of the world really do heal well, and have significant hair growth up to and through the scar line. An update on hair growth for this fellow will come around the holidays. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

Dr Lindsey, you seem to indicate that people from the Indian subcontinent heal better and have nicer scars - is that what you have seen from experience?

I think that fewer people from that part of the world have really tight scalps. That is from experience. That probably helps achieve a tension free closure and a good scar.
Equally important, those folks generally have DENSE donor hair, a good hair-skin color match, and almost never wear their hair so short that you can easily see even a bad scar. So, again, its a combination of good technique and the properties that the patient brings to the table. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
