im looking for someone who knows what what they are talking about to comment on this.. below is a link to a ridiculously EXPENSIVE, IMO, shampoo.... please have a look at the ingredients and tell me straight up if you feel it can have any positive effect on hairloss... im simply looking for another shampoo to work in with my nizoral
take note of the sites description of the benifits of the nettle root extract and its inhibition of TYPE2 5-ALPHA REDUCTASE and the saw pawmetto. are their claims drastically overstated or do they have SOME validity?? i KNOW the site is exaggerating what it can do. and if you read the site further their supposed before and after pics are ridiulous.. all that aside i simply want to know if you all feel(those who might ACTUALLY know) that a shampoo consisting of sawP and nettle root extract can be benifical to reducing DHT on the scalp..i assume its only thru systemic absorption that it may be effective..... thanks http://www.herbalhairshampoo.com/ingredients.html |

An unequivocal waste of money. Period. The amount of Nettle and Saw P that you would have to take to have any semblance of an effect would be immeasurable.

Swagger,
I've actually done a considerable amount of research on alternative treatments and I agree with Joe. While some products on the market may have some marginal benefit, nothing compares to Propecia and Rogaine. Read more of my findings on saw palmetto for hair loss and nettle root extract. Best wishes, Bill

Swagger,
In my opinion, the best regime is probably still what members refer to the "big 3" which is finasteride, minoxidil, and ketconazole shampoo. Topical spironolactone like S5 cream is quite popular with women (and can also be used by men). It may help reduce surface DHT in the scalp. Vitamin E tocotrienol may also prove to have some benefit. You could also consider Tricomin (natural hair growth alternative to Rogaine), Revivogen and/or Crinagen (both conjectured to inhibit DHT topically). Keep in mind that while there is some science behind these products, I haven't read or heard about patients raving about any of these products. Xandrox contains both minoxidil and azelaic acid (a conjectured DHT inhibitor). Whether or not it's more effective than minoxidil itself is questionable, but possible. For a list of products I've researched and written about, visit Commonly Asked about Hair Loss Treatments Best wishes, Bill
