What should come first, strip or extraction? I heard from a doctor that he wouldn't like to see a patient get "painted into a corner" by getting strip procedures early. I also have witnessed many patients start off with strips.

Whats the deal?

you get more yield from strip. You really have to plan for the future.

Strip is favored if you have to plan on multiple procedures. Extraction is a nice way to finish the job.

You also, wouldn't want to extract then get a strip done. It would almost defeat the purpose of extraction, since strip would probably incorperate the extraction area. Giving you less grafts, and twice the price for those extracted already.

[/quote]How would it be twice the price, to pay for a strip after doing FUE?

Lets say you depleted your donor area via FUE harvesting, it is unlikely but possible certainly. Then you decide you want more hair from a strip.

How would that cost more? You pay per graft via strip, so why would you be paying extra for grafts that were already moved?

The answer here is there's no reason at all why a guy can't get multiple FUE procedures, and then change his strategy later and get a strip. That seems like a perfectly reasonable approach, and not all that different then doing it the other way around (strip first and then FUE later).

Maybe I'm overlooking something though?

Arfy, I'm refering to the price of FUE grafting vs. Strip. FUE is known to be about twice or more the price.

Then strip the area that had FUE, those grafts would have been strip price.

A more simple explanation is this..

Assuming you are paying $8 per graft for FUE and $4 per graft for strip. If you remove individual follicles from the same area as the strip you are paying twice as much for those grafts. If you had the strip first, then the same grafts you paid $8 to remove would only have cost you $4.

So to have FUE done first in my opinion is a mistake and a waste of money. If you just do a megasession strip and THEN do FUE above and below the scarline and on the sides of the head, you will pay "less" and yield more grafts than doing it the other way around.

Comprende?

makes sense.

What if you are only a NW2, and you don't want to wait until you go bald to do a megasession strip? Could it still be advantageous to get a strip for only 1500 grafts knowing that in the future there may be a need to have futher work done?

I'm trying to weigh my options. Thanks for the input.

It was a tough decision for me when I started doing research prior to my HT. I opted for the FUE and I am not disappointed in my decision.

I spoke in great lengths with Jeff (Doc Epstein) and felt comfortable knowing that when I go for future procedures I can still opt for FUE and achieve great results.

I guess if you all are making this comparrison based soley on a price issue versus scar lines and results.. then I guess strip might be the way to go first -but- like I said I wouldnt have changed a thing.

Hey Philly... I was all FUE done over 2 seperate procedures.

Hows your research going? Have you made any decisions on what, where, and when you are doing your procedure?
