Dr. Devroye,
I must admit, eyebrow transplantation has always been something that's intrigued me. I definitely think that this patient now has an overall improved look. How do you typically recommend your patients maintain the length of their eyebrows since, unlike natural eyebrows, the hair will continue to grow like regular scalp hair? I'm interested in your feedback. Bill (Falc)

Looks good...But why would anyone want more eyebrow density? Men lose scalp hair, then get hair where they don't want it...nose, ears, and bushy eyebrows...I just don't get it......
Just a thought from the peanut gallery.... |

I agree with Bill, this is an excellent result. Tough case to do. Well done Dr. Devroye.

Hi everybody,
To answers Kaounis 'But why would anyone want more eyebrow density'? This patient send me a letter where he wrote : 'je suis plus que satisfait du r?©sultat, vous avez change ma vie.??¦.Merci encore de tout Coeur.('I'm more than satisfied about the result, you change my life??¦Thank again with all my heart ?») He told me that before the surgery, he was spending one hour a day to make up his eyebrows. As a doctor, we don't have to judge, we just have to help and answer a request. Some little change of the appearance can sometimes make all the differences. To Answer Falceros and MrGQ How do you typically recommend your patients maintain the length of their eyebrows since, unlike natural eyebrows, the hair will continue to grow like regular scalp hair? Curiously, many times, the hair transferred to the eyebrows doesn't grow as faster t as scalp hair. The patient has to trim once or twice per month. Women often leave the end part of the eyebrow growing longer. I've realized also some eyebrow transplant with body hair. One was made with under arm's hairs. The goal was to hide a permanent tattoo make up. The result is very nice and this woman doesn't have to trim. I think Eyebrow transplant is one of the most difficult and refined surgery in the field of hair transplant surgery. This is why I like to do it!

Dr. Devroye,
Thanks for your answer. I imagine using body hair for the eyebrows may minimize the need for trimming since it doesn't grow nearly as long as scalp hair. Trimming the eyebrows once or twice a month doesn't sound too difficult. Is there any particular grooming/trimming tips you offer your patients to help them properly groom them? In other words, I imagine some patients may have a hard time and accidentally cut them too short or even cut themselves if they aren't careful. i'm wondering how you help them maximize the benefit of their eyebrow transplant after surgery? Thanks for participating and offering your professional input on our forum. Best wishes, Bill (Falc)

I had two comments to make: One, I thought the artistic results from this eyebrow case were about the best I have ever seen. Dr. Devroye is a true artist in the eyebrow area with his transplants.
Second, I wanted to emphasize that body hairs when used in a small, condensed area like the eyebrow (or anywhere else, for that matter) are only PART-TIME WORKERS. This is because their growth phase is very short compared to scalp hairs and their resting phase (telogen) is quite long in relative comparison to the ratio in scalp hairs. Therefore, you almost need to place 200 BHT follicles in an eyebrow just to have 100 working for you at any given time. It's a waste of incisions and causes unnecessary damage to the tissue with an inadequate return for the damage inflicted. Mike Beehner, M.D. |

Just curious to know if the woman in the first case experiences times where she feels that her eyebrows are thinner?
Since the growth phase is shorter I assume that the shedding would be something that she would notice. |
