I'm 21, but have been suffering from hair loss since 18. I am really open about which doctor I want to use. I know it seems trivial to want to operate but I feel I have a legitimate case in about a year or so. I want to stay ahead of my loss progression, but am not silly enough to want an 18 year old's hairline. The recession I have now would be only augment slightly that way I can still have a distinguished mature hairline but with a lot more density then what I have now.

I'd like some advice/support about my decision to operate in a year or so. I've been on finasteride for about 3 years now. I know being proactive is a relatively new and unspoken concept on the forums and would like people to talk about it more. I don't think its vain of me to not want to wait until i'm bald to get some work done especially if i got the funds. Let me know. I'd also like to talk to some people over instant messenger.

Thanks for your unbiased comments.

Olsjar, your post reminds me of something I posted a while back. My vision of the future (assuming hair replication doesn't come to light) is that FUE becomes standard protocol. A young guy starts to lose his hair so he goes in for the first of many touch up procedures to keep ahead of the balding. For this to happen, the price per graft would have to come down.
Right now, it's tough for someone your age. Hairline work could probably be feasible to thicken up the front. Good luck.

Olsar, I am 23 and noticed frontal loss at around 21. I know EXACTLY what you are going through. I did exactly what you are doing now. First and foremost, stay on the propecia, if you start taking it at the first sign of fall out, that stuff is amzing - i've been on it for a little over 2 years and have noticed little to none loss on the top and crown. As far as the front, go see a few Doctors, preferably the well rated ones on this site, and see what they say. You might very well be a good candidate. I got 1200 grafts put in 3 months ago by Dr. Epstein and it looks amazing already!

If your a NW2 then, start on Propecia and Rogain as well as MSM... This should halt or slow down your hairloss--- dont get a HT this young--- you dont need it now. Get on the meds -- the earlier you get on Propecia and Rogaine the better your results will be.

thanks for the advice, I've been on Propecia/Proscar for around 3 years. I wish I could just shrug the current hairloss off, but cannot. I'm going to investigate all my options and weight them accordingly. I understand how a bad plastic surgery can permenantly affect my outlook on life, because I already regret the one i had when I was 18. I feel that-especially when it comes to cosmetic surgery- I am a little more precocious than the average 21 year old.

Hard to comment without any pictures. If money's not a factor, why not consider a small FUE session to "fill the gaps" and see how it goes? You could just be happy with 1000 or 1500 FUs carefully placed. I wouldn't go for a strip megasession at your age and waste valuable donor hair you might desperately need later in your life.
