This norwood type V had been on Propecia for some time prior to seeing us. It had apparently stopped the hair loss but had not caused any regrowth. In the first session, we did 2190 grafts (5,229 hairs) in the frontal half of the scalp with good results. After one year, he decided to fill in the crown as well. We did 1565 grafts (3,327 hairs) only in the crown. The pictures are taken one year after the second session.

I agree with Yogi's Dad. Looks more like 5,000+ at least.

Great job. One of the top doc's on here imho.
What kind of donar did this patient have and how big was the area covered? I have a similar balding pattern as him and would love to know. Also was his hair shaved for the surgery? thanks |

The result is better than average and I think can be attributed to several things. He has great hair with alot of body and texture. As the grafts grew in, he wore it a good bit longer, which provided a nice shingling effect. Some patients just seem to get more robust growth, which may be due to their circulation (oxygenation), genetics, or nutritional status.

Dr. Cooley--
By "more robust growth" do you mean that the yield is better, the hair grows out thicker, or does other surrounding (non-transplant) hair awaken? I thought I once read about that phenomenon happening in rare cases. Sometimes I see results that just don't make sense. What I mean is, that even with the skill of a great surgeon, something just doesn't add up in the end. I've seen surgeons post results where the density is just beyond belief, and where the patient supposedly had relatively average donor hair characteristics. I find it very confusing. |
