I understand where you are coming from Dewayne, but please understand the reason we take pre-op photos is to document the patient's hair loss. We don't really care about what hair style he had or what it looked like when he was trying to cover up the bald area with his existing hair. That is why most of the doctors out there will brush the existing hairs back so you can see exactly how bald they are. When they come in for their 6 month to 1 year photos, we will then take the photo with the patient's hair style.
For us as doctors, this whole question of pre-op photo hair style seems to be a mute point, and we aren't purposefully trying to 'mislead' anyone. Are people who are doing research on here wanting to see a patient trying to hide his baldness or do you want to see how bald patient's really are prior to surgery?

Dr. Alexander and Dewayne,
Generally speaking, I think the issue regarding hairstyle is consistency. Now the above patient had such minimal hair left that no hairstyle could conceal his baldness. However, I've seen pictures where a patient's baldness is overemphasized through hairstyle, lighting, wet hair, and angles where the after photos show the result in optimal conditions including good lighting, optimal angles, dry hair, and a flattering hairstyle. Though it may not be fair to conclude that physicians are purposely trying to be deceptive, I do believe clinics should be do their best to provide realistic examples of their work. This is why I created the featured thread at the top of this forum entitled "How to Take and Present Compelling and Realistic Photos" Taking a number of photos showing multiple angles usually helps convey the overall result. Many clinics have also started to show videos of their patient's transformations, which I think is even more helpful than photos. I just thought I'd add my two cents. Best wishes, Bill
