This gentleman presented to my office in May 2007 for his initial consultation. As noted by his photos he sits somewhere between an extensive Norwood pattern 5 to early pattern 6. At that time I recommend he start with at least 3000 +/- grafts to address the frontal half of his scalp, creating a Norwood pattern 3v. I also recommend medical therapy and he understood to address his entire scalp he would need the better part of 6000-8000 grafts.
In August of 2008 he decided to move forward with transplantation in a conservative manner, initially addressing the front half of his scalp. His hair quality and the multiple shades of gray would aid in the cosmetic benefit he would see from his transplant. Presented are his pre op and 9 months post op photos, including his healed excisional scar. He will continue to see some additional improvement over the next 3-6 months after which he will consider his options of increasing his central density (if needed) or planting his entire crown.
