I've added some 4 month post-operative pictures and pictures of the final result of this patient, he visited my office for his 1 year follow-up last week. It is nice to see how the density rate has increased between 8 months and 1 year post OP!


FUT performed on a 71 year old Caucasian male with:
- ~90% white hair and ~10% brown hair
- NW Class V
- Donor density of 45-55 FU/cm??
- Hair diameter of 65-75 microns

Treatment plan:

After a profound preoperative examination with his general practitioner and after a preoperative blood analysis and cardiologic check-up, we performed a Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 2950 follicular units to reshape the face and fill in the mid head area and temporal peaks (~200 single FU + 100 double FU each side)

Performed procedure (March 17, 2007):

A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 2950 FU
* 950 single hair FU
* 1200 double hair FU
* 800 triple hair FU

Donor closing in 2mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure Technique (double layer suture);
Parallel incisions (single, double and triple units) in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0,85mm -1,1mm);
Dense packing technique with a density of 40 FU/cm?? in hair line and feather zone (single units), a density of 35 FU/cm?? in density zone (double and triple units) and a density of 20 FU/cm?? in the temporal peak area (single and double units).

The patient is extremely happy with his result after 8 months. He explained that in reality he is now 8 months older but he looks 15 years younger than on his preoperative pictures. The reconstruction of the temporal peaks is one of the most essential points for an aesthetic and beautiful result.
I will keep you posted with the final result within a couple of months.
