This Norwood 3 young man has fine, blonde hair with mostly 2 and 3-haired fus.
He has had a conservative transplanted hairline and is taking Finasteride and using Minoxidil but is prepared to transplant further back when and if he loses more hair. He had 2001 microscopically-dissected fug transplanted at @ 54 fug per sq. cm. 1s were placed into pre-made lateral 20-gauge holes in the leading edge of his hairline then stick-and-place was used with 20 and 19-gauge needles. His barber cut his hair 1/2 inch long just before these photos which is shorter than he likes or I recommend but it does allow for close inspection of his transplant. After his hair is longer, the transplanted hair will look fuller and blend better with the finer, lighter, miniaturizing non-transplanted hair behind it.

Dr Simmons... I see in your bio you also went to Unger years ago I have along road ahead of me for repairs and cant wait to get started some day. As for now I stay lookin like a freak till I save a huge chunk of cash to repair this mess somewhat.

It is just past a year but he is not from the GTA and hasn't scheduled a follow-up appointment yet. Sorry I don't have photos of his donor scar but I have started taking routine donor scar photos for other patients and will post them.

I do enjoy revising older hair transplants. It can be challenging but it is also very rewarding. I rarely do FUE as a stand-alone procedure because I don't have as much experience or confidence with big sessions of FUE as with FUT-T. Almost all of my patients are concerned about cost and time off work. FUE takes me longer to perform and costs patients more than FUT-T. FUE is a technically demanding procedure and it requires lots of practice to be both good and fast at it. I know that there are some doctors who do lots of FUE but I prefer to concentrate on doing follicular unit transplantation with trichophytic closure and on making the donor scar as undetectable as possible. I did feel that it was important to be able to do FUE because it can be a great technique for certain situations like repair work. I can do it well but only if I work slowly. FUE allows me to reduce old grafts and reuse the follicular units on the same day as I do a hair transplant. Before FUE, it was hard to convince people to have 2 sessions of the Lucas technique to reduce the old grafts in the month before their main transplant. Trying to just fill in around big grafts can't give as natural a result as reducing them first. I have not met you so I can't give you specific advice. In general, when someone has had extensive transplantation with older methods, more often than not I do smaller procedures to gradually revise and reduce scars and modernize their hair transplant at the same time. With each session I aim to improve both the recipient area and the donor area. When it is technically possible, revising an old donor scar can make it easier to hide than transplanting grafts into it - whether those grafts came from FUE or FUT. Before you save up a "huge chunk of cash" it would be worthwhile for you to consult a hair transplant doctor (or two) in person to explore your options. Even if you aren't ready to start your modernization yet it would be good to get an idea about what is possible and to work out a long-term plan. I hope this long-winded answer helps. Kind regards,
