This fellow has great donor hair with regard to thickness and density. We placed just over 3000 grafts to give him nice dense coverage. We will put up follow up pics in a few weeks at the scar check.
Custom made 0.72mm blades were used for frontal singles, and 0.88mm blades for 2s and 3s further back. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

No this is a mid 50's caucasian with fairly thick donor hairs and good density, plus a fairly stretchable scalp. Also, unlike asians, he has less of a color mismatch between scalp and hair. We pack as tightly as possible in that first 3/4 inch hairline with singles. He probably got 60+ grafts/cm in the front strip. His donor hairs were fairly thick as seen in the 1 week pics.

The work you performed on this patient is very impressive. I really like the hairline design as it is very natural. Also, the dense packing of the slits looks very clean. Excellent work. Now the hard part for you and the patient: waiting for the final results. This patient should be very happy. One question; I noticed that the transplant ends in the midscalp. Does this patient have plans for a second transplant or was that by request of the patient? In patients who do not want the crown tranplanted, I try to "fade out" the transplant and provide a gradient from the dense packing area to the area of alopecia in the crown.

Dr. Lindsey,
This is a nice example of ultra refined looking work. I look forward to seeing the grown out results. We've been seeing a lot of immediately postoperative photos from you lately, and everything's looking good. I hope the next example will show the final product. Best wishes, Bill

Thanks Bill and Dr. Gabel.
He certainly has donor hair to do a second procedure and I suspect we will at some point. A fellow very similar to this man, who I posted on this site in Jan 2008, has had excellent results. He is a surgeon nearby and is an avid swimmer like me. He has sent a number of folks in and was "committed" to a second procedure this Christmas. When I spoke with him about a swimming issue a few weeks ago he told me the hair has to wait... he has a new girlfriend and they are off to Europe for a few weeks. I now doubt if I will ever see him professionally again. He has a nice front half of his head, a new girlfriend, and cash in his pocket. I doubt if I can make him happier. Good for him. I will be going to his house to try out his endless pool though. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

Dr. Lindsey
I think you need to tell your friend that the girlfriend may not be permanent; the hair will always be there for him.
