Guys, be aware that using Nizoiral shampoo can cause a negative effect on your hair and scalp. It can dry your scalp right out with too many applications and also cause server shedding.

I have spoken with a few guys recently and over the years who have introduced nizoral as part of their reg and it has not done them any favours, if anything its hindered them.

It's all too easy to use nizoral shampoo and feel you are benefiting your situ . It makes your hair feel great and also look fuller. The risk you run is over applying it due to this and in turn causing a drastic shed in some cases.

I know a few guys who at around several months post op their HT feel they are really starting to get somewhere in terms of growth a real change in appearance - and start nizoral - and initially love it. It gives your hair and scalp a great feel and volume initially but can lead you into a little trap IMO.

Guys will then over apply as its easily done (2 even several times a week) and this then causes a SHED and can completely take the air out of the tires so to speak as HT patients are really starting to make progress and then due to over use of Nizoral (Nizoral greed) and an inevitable shed causes you to loose VITAL ground which took such a long time to gain.

The sheds pass and the hair will all come back in over time so nothing long term to worry about but this is often the reason why guys who feel they were gaining momentum with their HT suddenly hit a wall of disappointment. It will be interesting to gain feedback on this and how many can relate.

My personal opinion is to hold off nizoral whilst waiting for your HT to come in or only use it little and not often - once a every 2 weeks say.

People may have a different opinion to me on this but i have spoken to many guys and a VERY common pattern has raised its head to me due to numerous and varied feedback on use of nizoral.

Yeh i can second this ...i to got the NIZORAL GREED and subsequent shed.
I haven't had the ht yet but it robbed me of of some precious coverage.
Use in moderation.......to much of a good thing and all that.

I use Revita everyday day ( has KET as well) or so and havent really seen any shedding to my knowledge. I like it very much.

No doubt Nizoral can be a bit harsh & should not be overused. As far as the shedding would that not be a temporary state ( like propceia in the beginning) which would result in a regular, possibly stronger hair shaft??

All treatments such as propecia and Rogaine start with this??

It's important guys starting meds like nizoral and the guys just going into HT's or mid HT especially are aware of this as well as it can throw a little red herring into the mix if not aware and cause some increased anxiety.

Are you referring to the prescription Nizoral (2% Ketoconazole I believe) or the non-prescription Nizoral (1% K)? I have been alternating daily between 1% Nizoral and T-Gel to help with the scaling and psoriasis on my scalp. And the combo works for me! I haven't had any noticeable shedding or scaling since using them. But I have heard that the use of these intense shampoos can slow down growth from a HT. Is there any evidence of this?

I am referring to the 2% mate. I don't think it slows down the growth of a HT - just causes shedding which in turn delays the final result.

I use the 1% nizorelle a few times a week as my normal shampoo and it leaves the hair looking fuller for sure but if you leave it on your head for too long it does dry the scalp out and can make it tingle.No unusual shedding with it but I dont leave it on for long.May try revita sa everyone says its great stuff!!.

You know, I noticed hair thinning right around the time I was using Nizoral in recent months. I used the 1% and got a little overzealous with it, about 3 times a week. Dried the hell out of my hair and scalp and noticed some hair thinning. I suspected it might be caused by the shampool so I stopped using it late October.

A little more than 2 months later and my hair still looks thinner than before the Nizoral. I don't know if the dry fall/winter air helped it much. Iv'e been shedding hair and chronic dandrum. A couple of weeks ago I started using a combo of aloe gel and tea tree oil. The last few days I switched to using tea tree oil only and that seemed to help with the dandruff for now. The shedding is a bit less now than it was a couple of weeks ago.

How long will the shed hair grow back that was from using Nizoral? Does the effect of using it last a few months after stopping?
