Dr. Bill Reed and his experienced staff perform highly refined follicular unit grafting and trim all grafts under microscopes. They devote their time to one patient a day.

They are not dogmatic about using only 1, 2, 3 and 4 hair follicular unit grafts, since they believe it is in the best interest of many patient’s to use some multiple follicular unit grafts in the central areas to create an optimal illusion of density for the patient. Dr. Reed believes that these denser grafts can break up and mask what might otherwise be a see through or transparent looking hair transplant.

Dr. Reed provides ultra refined grafting techniques using various sized grafts depending on the needs and desires of the patient. He also uses the smallest incision possible to safely accommodate each sized graft. His procedure and techniques are ultra refined and responsive to providing each patient with the optimal technique for achieving their ultimate best results.

Dr. Reed is also a hair transplant patient and had two session performed in 1994. One year later he opened the La Jolla Hair Restoration Medical Center in 1995.

Dr. Reed is an active member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and participates in their annual conferences. He has received funding for research from the ISHRS and has made presentations annually since 1998. He has been on the faculty for its Beginner's Workshop and has served as co-facilitator in ISHRS workshop programs.

Dr. Reed has been published multiple times in the Hair Transplant Forum International and has also contributed to two chapters in the most recent edition of Hair Transplantation edited by Dr. Unger and Dr. Shapiro. Dr. Reed is board certified in emergency medicine.

Background Information

Dr. Bill Reed was born in Kingsport, Tennessee. He graduated from Tulane University with a BS degree in 1969 and from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1973. Following graduation he did a surgical pathology internship and residency at Stanford University and a clinical pathology residency at University of California, San Diego.

He changed his career path in 1976 by beginning to practice emergency medicine. He practiced emergency medicine in San Diego for the next nineteen years and then stopped to begin the full time pursuit of a career in hair transplantation surgery in 1995.
